page 97 note 1 He states that all the adjectives he discusses connote redness. Purple and red are treated by him as virtually interchangeable. In connection with , equated with by S. there ought to have been a discussion of Xenophanes' description of the rainbow (B 32.2) where the two colour-words are clearly not regarded as interchangeable.
